[Iroe (polychrome pottery)]
A technique of decorating ceramics.
Iroe refers to painting motifs or patterns using lead-based red, yellow and green color glazes on the surface of glazed and fired earthenwares, porcelains, and firing them again at a lower temperature (around 800 degrees C) so the colored glaze melts onto the underglaze.
Arita ware is one of the representative iroe ceramics in Japan.
[Tousai NAKAMURA] (1953-)
A Kyoyaki ceramics artists.
Born in Nakagyo, Kyoto.
After he graduated from Kyoto Pottery School in 1979, he started to study under the first generation Ryosai at Kageyama Tougaen.
From 1981, he studied under Syuho Nakamura at Nakamura Tosaian.
His master pieces are “Iroe Aokaede Chawan” “Kuro Kakikurie Chawan” and so on.
