[Utsutsugawa-Ware]
One style of Japanese pottery produced in Utsutsugawa, Bizen Province (present Nagasaki prefecture). It is said that Geibuzaemon Takaka established the first kiln in the Genroku era(1688-1704). Once the Utsutsugawa ware kiln was closed because of Province’s financial difficulties in 1749, however the 12th generation Gagyu Yokoishi revived it in the Meiji period.
Utsutsugawa ware has various decorations such as brush mark slip, Sometsuke (cobalt oxide paint) and Tetsue (iron paint) on surface.
[ Gagyu YOKOISHI ]
Born in Nagasaki prefecture in 1927.
Since 1943, he studied under his father, the twelfth generation Gagyu YOKOISHI So'un.
He won many prizes for his art craft, and made the opportunity to exhibit.
Afterward, in 2006, he succeeded the thirteenth generation Gagyu YOKOISHI, as the owner of Gagyu Gama.
