[Yuzo KONDO](1902-1985)
A Japanese potter from Kyoto. A Living National Treasure in the field of Sometsuke.
After graduation from Kyoto Ceramic Experimental Station Attached Training Center in 1917, he became an assistant of the center. Also he refined his skills under Kanjiro Kawai, Shoji Hamada and other potters.
Yuzo won several prizes at the Bunten Exhibition and Teiten Exhibition, and in 1956 he received the gold award for Japanese Traditional Crafts at the 3rd Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition.
Yuzo mainly produced sometsuke porcelain and was designated as a Living National Treasure in 1977 as well as receiving the Medal of Honor with Purple Ribbon in 1970, the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon and the Kyoto City Cultural Order Award in 1973, and the Medal with Dark Blue Ribbon in 1980.
As an educator, he became an assistant professor of Ceramic course at the Kyoto City University of Arts in 1953, an professor of the same course in 1956 then he was appointed to the president of the University in 1965.
Died in 1985.
