[Yoshiki SUGIURA] 1946-
Sugiura Yoshiki was born in Takahama city in 1915, and studied under Kawamura Kitaro, Bunsho Ohe, and the celebrated potter, Rosanjin Kitaoji. In 1952, he moved to Seto and remained there until his death in 1982.
Sugiwara won several prizes at the Japan Fine Arts Exhibition and the Nitten.
[ Hake-me ]
Decorative technique for ceramics.
Kaolin (white clay) is painted over with a brush, leaving brush marks ("hake-me" in Japanese) on the surface of the item. A transparent glaze is then applied.
