[Kutani ware]
Kutani ware is a Japanese porcelain with overglaze painting, made in the southern cities of Kanazawa, Komatsu, Kaga, and Nomi in Ishikawa Prefecture. The first Kutani ware was produced in 1655 by order of Maeda Toshiharu, who governed this region in the mid-17th century.
This gorgeous porcelain is decorated with various styles of overglaze painting called ao-e, gosaide(5 colors paint), kinrande and so on.

Born in Ishikawa prefecture in 1946.
Since 1973 when he won the first prize at the Nitten Exhibition and Japan Modern Art Crafts Exhibition, he got many prizes at the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition, the Modern Art Exhibition, Japan Traditional Craftsman Exhibition and so on. His works has been displayed at oversea exhibitions such as the Singapole Art Festival, the International Art Exhibition in France, Japan Festival in Australia and his works are highly evaluated both inside and outside Japan. (He got the highest honor at the 27th Nitten Exhibition in 1995 and displayed his work without being screened in the next 1996.)
He has held his personal exhibitions since 1989 in Tokyo, Osaka and other cities in Japan. In 1997, the Minister of Trade and Industry designated him as the Traditional Craftsman of the Country.
A fellow member of Nitten. A member of Ishikawa potter Association/ association of Japanese modern crafts.
