[Saga Nishiki]
A style of brocading from Saga prefecture, Japan. It was invented by the wife of Kashima Nabeshima, the daimyo of Saga Domain.
Japanese paper coated in gold, silver or lacquer is used as the warp and the weft is dyed silk threads. Saga Nishiki has various woven patterns such as Ajiro(wickerwork-like pattern) and Saya(gossamer-figured pattern). It takes times to produce Saga Nishiki so only several inches are produced each day.
