[Moriyasu KIMURA]
A Japanese potter in Kyoto.
The leading person of Tenmoku glaze (a dark glaze with a surface that resembles oilspotting) in Japan who revived ancient Tenmoku glaze and also indented new Tenmoku glaze.
1935 Born in Gojozaka, Kyoto as the 4th son of a Kyo ware ceramic painter.
1954 Studied about glazes and formation of pottery as a researcher at Kyoto Handcrafts Consulting Center. He graduated the regular course in 1956 and the specialized course in 1957.
1957 Won a prize at the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition for 3 times.
1959 Won a prize at the Kyoto Prefecture Arts Exhibition for 3 times.
1961 Won a prize at the Kyoto Prefecture Art Crafts Exhibition for 9 times.
1963 Won a prize at the Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition for 5 times.
1966 He was recommended for a regular member of Nihon Kogeikai (the Japan Art Crafts Association).
1970 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs bought his work “Tenmei Yu Tsubo (a Tenmei glazed pot)” which was displayed at the Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition.
1986 “Matsunoki Tenmokuyu Tsubo (Pine tree Tenmoku glaze pot)” became the collection of the Palace Museun, China.
1992 “Tea bowl of the pine-tree tenmoku type Chawan (Shoju tenmoku)”, “Tea bowl of the iridescent blue-green tenmoku type Chawan (Yohen nogime midori tenmoku)”, “Vase (Blue-green Tenmoku)” became the collection of Museun of Fine Arts Boston, US.
1996 “Kaen Tenmoku Chawan”, “Matsunoki Tenmoku Vace” “Hikime Midori Tenmoku Utsuwa” became the collection of Dallas Museum of Art.
1997 “”Yohen Hikime Tenmoku Tsubo(pod)”,”Hikime Midori Tenmoku Chawan” became the collection of the Museun of Fine Arts, Houston, US.
1999 “Kaen Tenmoku Ohachi”, “Hikime Midori Tenmoku Tsubo (pot)”,”Hikime Tenmoku Tsubo” became the collection of British Museun, UK.
2000 “Youhen Tenmoku Chawan”, “Hikime Midori Tenmoku Tsubo””hikime Tenmoku Tsubo” became the collection of Harvard Art Museum.
In Japan, his works are collected at Kyoto Geihinkan (the guest house of Kyoto Prefecture), the Museum of Kansai University, Kyoto University, Ise Jingu Shrine and so on. He has held many personal exhibitions in various cities in Japan.
