[Kugon NAGAOKA] (1929-)
A Japanese potter in Matsue city, Shimane prefecture.
Kugon is the 11th generation Juzaemon Nagaoka, the master of Rakuzan ware kiln.
Rakuzan ware is a style of Japanese ceramics that originally created in a villa of the Matsudaira family in Matsue city, and the Nagaoka family has been succeeded the methods and technique of Rakuzan ware.
The 11th generation Kugon was an eldest son of the 10th generation Kusho, and lerned under his father ans grand father 9th generation Kuumi after he graduated junior high school.
Also Kugon refined his skills under the 11th generation Koraizaemon Saka, a famous Hagi ware potter.
Kugon succeeded the 11th generation Juzaemon Nagaoka in 1971 and named “Kugon” as an art name. He was designated as Intangible cultural properties by Shimane prefecture in 2000.
He has great skills of making Iraho-utsushi and Mishima-utsushi.
