[Hyokan KAWASE]
Hyoukan KAWASE is the family that succeeded a technique of kyo-shikki (a type of lacquers in Kyoto), whose main school of Kyo-shikki, called “omoteha”.

His name is Hantaro. He is the 1st generation of Hyokan.

Born in Kyoto in 1933. A son of the 1st Hyokan (Hantaro). Hantaro gave him the 2nd head of Hyokan. His name is Kou.
The 2nd Hyokan, Kou, worked for tea utensils and lacquer arts as same as Sentaro or Hantaro.
The 2nd Hyokan used various techniques of lacquer wares (honkatajinuri, tamenuri, mokuji-tameruri, ikkan-nuri, nunozuri, suriurushi, kanshitu …etc), and made tanamono, robuchi, netsume, kougou, kashiki (a shallow bowl for wagashi).
His younger brother, Kou (same pronunciation, different kanji), also succeeded the 2nd head of Hyokan. That’s why two persons took the same head.
In 1993, he worked at restoration the treasures for Isejingu shrine.
In 2006, he had an exhibition collaborating a flower arrangement in London.
His works were in prize at the Montreal International Arts and Craft
