[Katsuyoshi KOTOGE] (1946-)
A potter in Kyoto. Born in Himeji, Hyogo.
After he studied pottery under his uncle, the 5th generation Kosai Miyagawa (Living National Treasure) , he became independent and established his kiln “Tanzan-gama” in Uji, Kyoto in 1974.
He mainly creates tea utensils and good at Mishimade and Iga Utsushi.
He won several prizes in such as Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition, and has been
held his exhibitions in Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo.
[ Hake-me ]
Decorative technique for ceramics.
Kaolin (white clay) is painted over with a brush, leaving brush marks ("hake-me" in Japanese) on the surface of the item. A transparent glaze is then applied.
