[Kijyu FUKUDA] (1932- )
A Japanese embroidery artist. Kijyu is the only embroidery artist of Living National Treasure of Japan.
KIjyu was born in Kyoto in 1932 as a son of Kisaburo Fukuda, an embroidery artist in Kyoto. He started his training in 1971 under his father, and then established his own studio "Fukuda embroidery and dying laboratory" in 1971. Kijyu was designated as a Intangible cultural properties designated by Kyoto Prefecture in 1992, and then a Living National Treasure in the field of embroidery in 1997.
With skillful techniques of dying, embroidery and gold leaf, Kujyu has been creating sensitive kimono.
