[Goro KAWAMOTO] 1919-1986
A Japanese potter.
Goro kawamoto was born as the second son of Jugoro Shibata, a potter in Seto city, Aichi prefecture. After he graduated from Aichi Ceramic School, he entered Kyoto Ceramic Experimental Station Attached Training Center and refined his skills. He was adopted by Rekitei Kawamoto, a well-known sometsuke potter in Seto city in 1950 and produced porcelain with sometsuke.
Goro won both his first prize at the 9th Nitten Exhibition and the Asahi Modern Ceramic Art Exhibition Grand Prize in 1953. Then he got to produce ceramics instead of porcelain, and won many prizes both in and out of the country such as the Brussels International 1910 Grand Prize, the Shin Nitten Exhibition Special Prize and the West Germany International Handcrafts Exhibition Gold Award.
Goro is famous for his style, the traditional Seto ware techniques with modern moldings.
