[Moriyoshi SASAKI] (1949-)
A Japanese potter.
Moriyoshi was born in 1949 in Utsunomiya city, Tochigi prefecture as a son of a Japanese sculptor, Rusuo Saeki. Aiming to be a potter, he dropped out of the design course of Musashino University of Arts, then entered the craft course of Tokyo University of Arts. Moriyashi met inlayed celadon in Korea, and was attracted to that. He graduated Tokyo University of Arts in 1975, and won an Excellent Award at the graduation exhibition. He worked at the ceramic producing company, Tokoen in Masuko, then became independent and established his studio in 1981.
Moriyoshi is an unprecedented potter who produces inlayed ceramics with patterns of wood as his lifework, which look like drawings painted on surface. IN there days, he produced inlayed works of Sakura as his new theme.
He won many prizes at the International Ceramic Art Exhibition, the Masuko Ceramic Exhibition and other exhibitions, and has held his personal exhibitions at Takashimaya department stores and so on.
