[Morinobu KIMURA]
A Japanese Potter in Iwakura, Kyoto. The holder of an important intangible cultural property designated by Kyoto prefecture.
He has a skillful technique of potter’s wheel and creates beautiful ash glazed/ white glazed works.

1932 Born in Gojozaka, Kyoto as the 3rd son of Shozan KIMURA, a Kyo ware ceramic painter. (His oldest brother is Morikazu KIMURA, a potter and his young brother is Moriyaku KIMURA, a potter.) After studying sculpture at Kyoto Art Crafts School, he started creating pottery at his brother, Morikazu’s pottery studio in Gojozaka.
1958 Got a prize for the first time at the 5th Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition.
1959 Won the 3rd place at the 8th Asahi Modern Ceramic Art Axhibition
1960 Became a regular member of Nihon Kogeikai (the Japan Art Crafts Association.)
1961 Won the Nihon Keizai Shinbun Award at the 3rd Nihon Kogeikai Kinki Branch Exhibition
1962 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs bought his ash glazed pot and 2 Kohiki pots
1965 His work was displayed in the Modern International Ceramic Art Exhibition at the request of the exhibitor
1967 Became independent and established his kiln in Iwakurakino, Sakyo area, Kyoto.
1982 Held a personal exhibition for the 20th anniversary of establishment of his kiln at Takashimaya department, Osaka.
1990 Assumed the position of a board member of the Nihon Kogeikai
2000 Held an exhibition for the 50th anniversary of his pottery life at Takashimaya department store in Osaka.
He has held many of his personal exhibitions in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Shiga and other cities in Japan.
