[Tsugaru Kogin Sashi; Tsugaru Kogin Embroidery pattern]
A kind of traditional quilted clothes which was made around Tsugaru area, Aomori prefecture. We can admire them as the result of their efforts under the rule of restriction on use for material.
Due to the rule which was restricted farmers on use materials even for everyday clothes, they used to make their own clothes which made by hemp cloth as a result.
After Meiji era, since the restriction was relaxed and it enabled them to get cotton easily, Tsugaru Kogin Sashi was made patterns variously, which encouraged the ladies at that time compete against others.
Around 1887, although many Kogin Sashi kimono items were sold in common, because of opening the rails between Ueno - Aomori in 1891, and Aomori - Hirosaki in 1894, the popurality of Kogin Sashi which needed time and labor was rapidly falled away in disuse, as the abundant materials, such as cotton kimono could be acquired easily.
