NISHIJIN SEGAWA textile - based on Shosoin Treasures
Nishijin Tatenishiki-ori is the most historic weaving style of Nishijin-ori designed as Traditional Crafts, the designed as Traditional Crafts. Tatenishiki-ori weaving appeared in the 7th century and many of Tatenishiki-ori brocades was produced during Asuka and Nara period (around the 7th-8th centuries).
The procedure of weaving of Tatenishiki-ori is totally different from modern textiles; Tatenishiki-ori weaves designs by weaving warps systematically, while most of modern textiles used weft yarn to weave designs.
What is NISHIJIN-SEGAWA?
糸染め
西陣織の定義「先染めの紋織物」なので、生糸の配色ごとに染上げする作業です。当社の製品は、主に6色の柄と地色1色で構成しております。
整経
織物のコアとなるべき作業です。染上げた色糸を1本1本柄は縞模様に並べていく作業です。糸数本数が多い織物だけに熟練の技がきらめく作業です。並べた色糸を機に取り付けるロール状の筒に巻き付けて完了です。
織
出来上がったロール状の色糸を1本1本経糸(たていと)と繋げて製織する行程です。5000本以上の経糸を順番に繋げる作業は50年以上のキャリアの持ち主でも半日はかかります。
完成
織りあがりました製品を職人の目で最終確認です。糸の浮きや織傷がないか確認して、修正できるところは直して完成です。このような手間のかかる織物ですが、リーズナブルな製品にも使用しております。
